  • A reflection that includes a judgment of the grade the student should receive based on their assessment of the portfolio work against the course-grading rubric.

In order for students to meet the requirements of observation time and class time, an entire year would be necessary.  Students will meet with the high school teacher the first week of the school.  During this meeting students will be instructed on the expectations and requirements of the ED 101A.  The remainder of the year students will spend one class period per school day observing in the assigned classrooms.  Students will participate in an on-line forum which will include assignments and discussion with the other ED 101A students.  Students will be expected to use their own time to complete the requirements and portfolio for ED 101A.  A final presentation of the portfolio will be required to get CCN credit.

The final portfolio represents a significant amount of work and reflection and could be used as a senior project.

There is potential for a second year cadet teacher to earn an additional 3 credits through LBCC ED 102A.

Cadet Teacher Guidelines

Scio Middle School and Scio Elementary School have determined a common set expectations to which all cadets will be held accountable.

Cadet Teacher Name : ____________________________           Semester: ____________

Supervising Teacher: _____________________________          School Placement : ___________

Thank you for accepting the responsibility of cadet teaching at our School.

Our school has three basic rules; Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible.  Your job as a cadet teacher is to model these rules while you are here.   Your age alone makes you a leader, and your actions will influence younger students.

Responsibilities

  • Have a conversation with your Teacher Supervisor and establish your supervisor teacher's individual class guidelines for cadet teachers.

  • Check in and out at the main office every day.

  • Fill out the Cadet Teacher Log (either kept in the classroom or at the main office); which includes the day and date, times in and out, and a brief list or description of the tasks you accomplished for the day.

  • Go directly to and from the school assignment.  Students are NOT allowed to go home, to the store, or make any other stops between the high school and other schools with out permission.  SHS standard discipline policy will be followed for unexplained absences or other infractions.

  • All Cadet teachers MUST check in at the front office of the building they are assigned to and wear a visitor’s badge.

  • Cell Phones are not allowed to be used or seen while on the Scio Middle School or Centennial campus.

Grading

  • Your grade will be based upon attendance and punctuality, fulfilling your responsibilities as stated above, and your ability to accomplish tasks.  Excused absences will not count against you.

Service

  • Cadet teaching is a great way to demonstrate responsibility, feel good about helping students and teachers, and establish positive relationships.  It also provides high school students with an opportunity to explore the field of education and experience interpersonal growth.

Again, thank you for recognizing this responsibility and remembering to keep our school rules in mind to help with your success and the success of our student body.
