FACS Culinary Arts Classes

Below is a list of FACS claseses offered at Scio High School.

Foods 1

 

Foods I is a one semester elective class, it is a foundational course in the FACS program.  Students will be introdued to nutrition and wellness practices, safety, sanitiation, and basic food preparation .

Foods 2

 

 

Foods 2 is a the second foods class in the FACS program.  This class focuses on culinary techniques used in the commercial foods industry.  Students will learn safety and sanitation techniques required in the foodservice industry and earn their Food Handlers Permit,  They  will also learn culinary techniques used in the foodservice industry.  The class may have the opportunity to compete in a culinary competiton with other schools in Linn County.

International Foods
 
International Foods is a one semester elective class in which students study cultures and culinary from around the world.  Students research countries from different regions and give a presentation to the class as well as prepare recipes from that region.  The class final will be hosting the Internation Foods Day during lunch at the high school.  This will be a sampling of our favorite recipes from the semester and information about the country which it came from.

Advanced Foods

 

In Advanced Foods there will be an emphasis on food safetly and sanitation, food service management, and advanced culinary techniques.

Students will be given opportunities to compete in culinary competitions and other career developmemt activities.
